What is an MC Licence?

An MC licence allows you to drive:

  • B‑doubles

  • Road trains

  • Multi‑trailer combinations

Course Duration – Multi Combination (MC) Licence

The duration of your MC training depends on your current licence class and experience:

HR to MC Upgrade – 2‑Day Course

If you currently hold an HR licence, your MC upgrade requires a two‑day course. This allows time to develop the additional skills needed for multi‑trailer operation, including advanced coupling, reversing, trailer tracking, and hazard management.

HC to MC Upgrade – 1‑Day Course

If you already hold an HC licence, your MC upgrade can be completed in one day. HC drivers already have articulated vehicle experience, so the MC course focuses on multi‑trailer handling, B‑double operation, and advanced manoeuvring.

Course fee

The cost of your MC upgrade depends on your current licence class:

HR → MC Upgrade – $2,000

For drivers upgrading from an HR licence, the MC course fee is $2,000. This includes two days of training and assessment, covering articulated vehicle skills plus multi‑combination operation.

HC → MC Upgrade – $1,400

For drivers upgrading from an HC licence, the MC course fee is $1,400. This one‑day course focuses on multi‑combination skills, as HC drivers already have articulated vehicle experience.

MC Licence Eligibility & Process (ACT)

  • Hold HR or HC for 12 months

  • HR holders: must complete the Heavy Vehicle Knowledge Test at Road Ready Centre 👉 https://www.roadreadycentre.com.au

  • HC holders: no knowledge test required

  • Book MC training after meeting eligibility

  • Complete MC training (B‑double, coupling, advanced reversing)

  • Receive ACT MC Certificate of Competency

  • Upgrade your licence at Access Canberra

Cancellation & Refund Policy

  • Cancellations made less than 14 days before the course start date are not eligible for a refund. A $400 administration fee applies to all cancellations.

  • Failure to attend training on the scheduled day will result in no refund.

  • At our sole discretion, we may offer to rebook you into a later course if you provide a valid medical certificate or if your circumstances are considered reasonable and acceptable.
